Children’s Librarian (Full-Time)
Position Summary
The Girard Free Library is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and service-oriented Children’s Librarian to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in children’s literature, a commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive library environment, and the ability to engage young readers and their families through dynamic programming and outreach.
Job Duties
- Plan, develop, and present age-appropriate library programs and activities for children ages 0–12.
- Assist children, parents, and caregivers with selecting books, educational materials, and library resources.
- Participate in outreach activities, including school visits, library tours, and community events.
- Build and maintain relationships with local schools, childcare providers, and community organizations to promote literacy and library services.
- Select, curate, and maintain the children’s collection, including books, educational materials, and multimedia resources.
- Maintain records related to program attendance, outreach visits, and service effectiveness.
- Stay current with children’s literature, library service trends, and emerging educational technologies.
- Provide excellent customer service and support overall library operations as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in library science, education, or a related field.
- Experience working with children in a library, educational, childcare, or youth services setting.
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate programming.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to connect with children and families.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners.
- Familiarity with library systems and technology preferred.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening required.
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Day and evening hours required
- Occasional weekend hours as needed
Compensation
The salary range starts at $16.00 per hour and increases based on education and experience
