Summary
The Girard Free Library is seeking an enthusiastic and creative part-time Young Adult Librarian. This position focuses primarily on teen programming and young adult collection development, while also assisting with public service desk coverage as needed. We are a small public library, so adaptability, collaboration, and a strong commitment to public service are essential.
Duties
- Plan and implement age-appropriate programs for teens that reflect current interests and community needs
- Develop and maintain the young adult collection
- Build positive relationships with teens and encourage library use through outreach and informal engagement
- Provide support at the public service desk as needed, including basic reference service and technology assistance
- Collaborate with other library staff on programs, displays, and special events
- Perform other duties as assigned to support library operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, literature, social work, or related field required.
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) preferred, but not required
- Previous experience working with teens in a library, school, or community setting is strongly desirable
- Familiarity with social networking tools, Windows, and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of young adult literature, media, and programming best practices
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent written and interpersonal skills
- Satisfactory criminal background check and drug test
- Valid driver’s license
Work Schedule
Part-time, 28-hour per week position. Must be willing to work occasional weekends and evenings
Compensation
The salary range starts at $16.00 per hour and increases based on education and experience. Benefits package includes participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System and a paid time off package including 10 holidays and vacation time after a year of service (prorated based on time worked).
